Dangerous Wind Chill Advisory Ahead

Bundle up. Reports show that this week’s weather is going to make new records. On Wednesday, the wind chill could reach negative 60 degrees. The last worst wind chill was negative 57 degrees back in 1983 on Christmas Eve according to CBS Chicago. The wind chill advisory is for portions of Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

The National Weather Service wrote a situation report to explain the dangers of the weather that is approaching. The wind chill advisory takes effect Tuesday morning at four a.m. and ends on Tuesday at six p.m. Early Tuesday thru late Tuesday afternoon temperatures will be negative 20 to negative 30 degrees.

When going outside, there is action that needs to be taken to stay safe. People will need to wear proper clothing because frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes. Wearing three layers of clothing will keep you warm. Make sure to wear gloves, a scarf and a hat. Frostbite is most common on fingers, toes, nose, ears, cheeks and chin. Signs of frostbite can be numbness, blistering after rewarming and hard or waxy-looking skin according to a nonprofit health care company, mayoclinic.org.

A big concern that The National Weather Service stated is to bring pets inside. Pets need to have any type of shelter with fresh water. If pets are outside below freezing weather then it can cause damage to their bodies.

Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois issued a statement saying, “Our administration putting into place an Emergency Preparedness Plan with key state agencies as well as warning residents about these life-threatening conditions. We will continue working with local officials to make sure they get the help they need to keep their communities safe.” Make sure to stay warm and try to not go outside if you can.
