Plainfield North High School junior Ermukhan Kiani, was nominated to attend the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston, MA. Kiani was nominated because of his academic achievement, leadership and passion for science and technology.

Created in 2014, The National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists is an organization that hopes to inspire and support all students (K-12 and college) who wish to study in sciences and technology fields. The Academy’s programs and services help prepare students with the real-world survival skills that leaders need to succeed in today world.

The three-day event was from June 29 to July 1. The event brings the students face-to-face with winners of the Nobel Prize, the most prestigious award in the world, award winning young inventors and scientists, top university deans and Ivy League academic leaders.

One of the speakers was Shree Bose. In 2011, Bose was the first Google Science Fair winner for her research on the chemotherapy drug, cisplatin. In 2014, Shree co founded Piper, a startup based in San Francisco that gives kids hands-on lessons in computers and coding by having them build their own computers. Currently, Bose is a student at Harvard University and intends to pursue a career in science and research.

Once the students leave the event they will enter a free program that provides the continual mentorship, resources, direction and network of connections to achieve their dreams. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education plays a critical role in helping the United States become an economic and technological leader in the global marketplace.
