On August 27, the Chicago Bears faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs. Bears reserve quarterback, Connor Shaw, took a beating when he was tackled by one of the Chiefs. As Shaw fell, his left leg bent awkwardly and he ended up breaking his leg.

After the fall, the Chicago Bears took a knee as trainers put Shaw in air cast and wheeled him off in a cart. The 24-year-old quarterback was forced to have surgery later than night in order to fix the compound fracture that he endured in his leg. His fracture and surgery had ended his 2016 season.

Shaw took to Twitter to explain how he was feeling after the game. “Injuries are a part of the game and I understand that,” he tweeted. “This should’ve been avoided. No need for that type of cheap BS.” The Tweet was deleted soon after.

Shaw will be placed on a season-ending injured reserve. In order to make up for the loss of Shaw, the Chicago Bears dipped into the undrafted and singed East Carolina’s Shane Carden as a reserve quarterback.

Shaw is expected to make a full recovery. Although he will not have a third season in the NFL, coach John Fox has guaranteed that he has earned a future with the Chicago Bears.
