Sausage-Wielding Man Wins Black Pudding Throwing Contest
James Thorpe
This year’s World Black Pudding Throwing Championships was won by Gavin Ogden. The 50-year-old Mr. Ogden of Rochdale, United Kingdom travelled to the Pudding-Throwing-Mecca of Ramsbottom, United Kingdom to compete in the competition. The contest gives each contestant three chances to knock as many 6-1/2 pound Yorkshire puddings off of a plank as possible by throwing black pudding at it. The event attracted thousands of people many whom have a sheer love for the sport which dates back to the War of the Roses in the 15th century. According to local folklore soldiers had ran out of ammunition during a battle and resorted to throwing Yorkshire and Black puddings at each other. For those who aren’t up to date on their puddings according to the Huffington Post “Yorkshire pudding is a British dish consisting of baked batter. Black pudding is congealed pigs’ blood, fat and rusk encased in pig intestine.” Congratulations to Mr. Gavin Ogden whom I am sure has been waiting a very long time to celebrate this great achievement.
