Will County to help New Lenox in their Cedar-Laraway Project

Will County is working on 9 million dollars’ worth of improvements to the roads of the county. The improvements include adding turn lanes and replacing turn signals while widening the roads overall. This project has a section in the village of New Lenox at the intersection of Cedar and Laraway roads.

According to the county officials, New Lenox would be responsible for $583,000 worth of the project. This would take care of replacing water mains and adding new streetlights and street name signs. There is a loophole that means they might not be on-the-hook for the charges however.

The village spent nearly $680,000 in 2008 to build signal lights at the same intersection, and according to Village Engineer Will Nash, they will be credited for those funds by the county. This means the credit will take care of the cost of the village’s portion of the project with money to spare. The extra funds will go to landscaping and overhauling the external look of the intersection, also according to Nash.
