The Bishop of Joliet joins youth for Pizza and Religious talks

Last month, the bishop of the Joliet Diocese Daniel Conlon, came up with a brilliant idea that would get young people to discuss the issues that stand in between today’s youth and their religious community. Daniel Conlon met up with several young men and woman from the Joliet Diocese at the Home Run Inn Pizzeria in Bolingbrook to discuss religion over some pizzas. His goal for meeting these young men and women for pizza was to gain a better understanding of the questions that today’s youth would be struggling with during their faith journey. His other goal was to give the youth of his diocese an opportunity to be open about their relationship with the church and their own faith.

The group also discussed ways that youth can be more involved in their local religious communities. Latimer Ferrel, who was in attendance, told the Lewis Flyer that, “One of the concerns with our generation — generation x — is the issue of getting involved with the [religious] community,”

Christian Hoager, a student at the University of St. Francis, thought it was an interesting concept but he didn’t think it will really help anyone convert to or strengthen their faith.

The bishop told the Lewis Flyer that he enjoyed the discussion and he hoped that he may have many more opportunities to address questions from the dioceses youth in the future.
