On Tuesday, October 25, game one of the World Series took place. The Chicago Cubs played against the Cleveland Indians in Cleveland at the Progressive Field. The Cleveland Indians won the first game of the World Series with the final score being 6-0.

The Indians took the lead right away as the score was 2-0 after the first inning, and the score remained consistent until the bottom of the fourth. The Chicago Cubs tried, but couldn’t make it past the Indian’s pitcher Corey Kluber. Kluber made World Series history by throwing eight strikeouts within the first three innings.

Roberto Perez, of the Cleveland Indians, hit a home-run in the bottom of the fourth. This brought the score to 3-0. This was his second home-run of the post-season. The score remained the consistent throughout the rest of the inning.

At the top of the seventh inning, the Indians put in Andrew Miller as a middle reliever in place of Kluber. Kluber had 88 pitches and 14 strikeouts; he ended up pitching seven and two-thirds innings. Miller walked his first batter, Kyle Schwarber. This is Schwarber’s first appearance playing for the Chicago Cubs since this past April due to an ACL injury. Javier Baez had a hit which resulted in bases loaded and no outs. Willson Contreras got out on a pop fly and Addison Russell struck out. David Ross received the final out keeping the score at 3-0 to end the top of the seventh inning.

The Cubs changed out their pitcher from Jon Lester to Justin Grimm in the bottom of the seventh. The Indians made no runs during the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth, Kris Bryant was walked while Ben Zobrist hit a ball to the centerfield to advance Bryant to third base and himself to first. Schwarber got the final out of the inning resulting in no score change. After 22 pitches, the Chicago Cubs relieved Grimm with Hector Rondon in the bottom of the eighth. Perez, Rondon’s first batter of the night, hit his second home-run of the evening resulting in three additional runs leaving the score 6-0.

Indians brought in closer Cody Allen to relieve Miller in the ninth inning. The three hour and thirty-seven minute game ended with the Cubs gaining no runs throughout the entire game.

In 12 out of the last 13 World Series’, the team that won game one of the World Series took home the trophy.

Game two of the World Series takes place Wednesday, October 26 at the Progressive Field. The first pitch of the game will happen at 7:08 p.m. CST.
