Shoot Out at Louis Joliet Mall
Adan Godinez, a 31-year-old Morris resident has been charged with attempted murder after attempting to kill two DEA Task Force Officers during an undercover drug sting in the parking lot of Louis Joliet mall. On August 30, 2016 Adan Godinez and a co-defendant Fernando Godinez arrived at the scene of the undercover operation.
Adan Godinez got out the car and entered the undercover's vehicle. After Godinez provided the cocaine to the undercover officer law enforcement personnel approached to arrest him. Godinez seen law enforcement approaching, got out of the vehicle and pulled out a firearm. A exchange of gunfire ensued, Godinez was injured but survived. No officers were injured in the shoot out and both defendants were arrested in the mall parking lot.
Adan Godinez was charged with one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, one count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. Charges against Adan Godinez carry a mandatory minimum of 35 years in prison and a maximum of life.
Fernando Godinez was charged with one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Charges against Fernando Godinez are punishable by mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.
