USF Saints Reenact the Internet’s Newest Obsession: the #MannequinChallenge
Step aside, Harlem Shake! The #MannequinChallenge is the newest obsession that has taken the Internet by storm. This challenge requires a group of people to strike a dramatic pose and hold that pose, similar to a mannequin. That’s not all, the song “Black Beatles” by hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd must be playing in the background while everyone is completely still in either simple or complex positions.
The first known video of the Internet craze surfaced on Twitter from Twitter user @pvrity__ back in October. The #MannequinChallenge is believed to have been created by students at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
High school students across the nation are participating, but sports teams have started filming their own versions of this trend. The Milwaukee Bucks and Pittsburgh Steelers are just a couple of the professional sports teams that have hopped on the bandwagon. The Bucks set the bar high as they filmed their challenge on a plane.
The University of St. Francis Saints even recreated their own version of the #MannequinChallenge on the November 5th. It has already reached over 1,500 views in two days. You can find the video here.
The significance of this challenge seems to be nothing more than a fad similar to planking or Gangnam Style.
