USF Fighting Saints Win CCAC Tournament

The University of St. Francis women’s volleyball team won the 2016 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament against Indiana University South Bend Titans on November 12th on Saturday night at the Sullivan Center. They took home the title after winning the four-game match 25-11, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12.

While the Saints won the opening set by a large margin, they started to fall behind in set two as they fell behind 17-12. Junior Leah Alles, serving, ended up scoring seven points in a row to take the lead 19-17. The Saints ended up winning the second set due to service errors and missed hits on the Titans’ side.

Indiana South Bend won the third set despite the odds of USF winning its third game in a row. The Titans won the fourth set as well forcing a fifth set.

The Titans had an early lead (4-2) as Ashley McClintock had back-to-back aces. The rest of the game was back-and-forth and no one was exactly sure who the winner would end up being. The USF Saints won by only two points as they became the champions for the tenth time in the history of the CCAC Tournament.

The opening round matches will be held Saturday, November 19.
