Al’s to Host Free Thanksgiving Meal
Al’s Family Restaurant in Morris is hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner for the 14th year in a row this coming Thanksgiving. This year will have two separate seating times, one at noon and the next at 1:30 p.m. The restaurant always fills up quickly so management says that reservations should be phoned in to 815-942-0921.
The free meal was started 14 years ago by Dr. Phillip Ortiz, a local optometrist, in association with I Care International, an organization of optometrists and volunteers that help out local communities through events like the free meal. The meal includes stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes and other side dishes. Local tradition normally sees many people bringing in deserts and side dishes to share as well, according to management. The Morris Fire Department will also deliver 30-40 meals to Eliot Manor from Al’s during the holiday in conjunction with the free meal.
