President Barack Obama gave away 21 Presidential Medal of Freedom awards in what is one of his last acts as acting President. Among the many honored was one of President Obama's favorite athletes ever, Michael Jordan. During his speech at the ceremony Obama had many words to say about those being honored but his whole speech can be summed up with one excerpt “We’ve got innovators and artists, public servants, rabble rousers, athletes, renowned character actors, like the guy from Space Jam,". This is not the first time that Michael Jordan has been in the White House as his six NBA championships earned him trips to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Among the others honored at the event included Maya Lin, the woman who designed the Vietnam Memorial, as well as Ellen Degeneres, Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, Robert De Niro, architect Frank Gehry, scientist Margaret Hamilton, “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels, Robert Redford, the first chairman of the FCC, Newt Minow, Bill and Melinda Gates, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, inventor Richard Garwin, and Vin Scully. It will be interesting who the the next round of award winners will be as they will be selected by current President-Elect Trump.
