Success 5th Make a Diffence Day held by St. Mary Immaculate Parish

The core of religious service and mission would have to be making a difference in other people’s lives. That is what parishioners did this year at the 5th annual Make a Difference Day which was hosted by St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield.

The event took place on Oct.15th and was a rousing success as over 1000 families, seniors, youths and everyone in-between came out to make a difference. Over 65 service projects were held around the parish and in the local communities of Joliet and Aurora. These service projects included:

  • There was Eucharistic adoration and sprucing up the grounds at the parish and school.

  • People made mats for the homeless from recycled plastic bags.

  • People made beaded rosaries to be given away by the Legion of Mary.

  • People came to the blood drive sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

  • The St. Anne’s Sewing Circle accepted clothing items all day for free mending and hemming services.

  • Provided service at Feed My Starving Children, Joliet Township Animal Control, Plainfield Park District’s Painting Project and Ready Set Ride Therapeutic Recreation Facility.

  • Visited six area nursing homes to participate in music, bingo, crafts or manicures with the residents.

Throughout the day, every volunteer was invited to have a free lunch at the St. Mary Immaculate School Gym which was prepared and served by the local Boys Scout Troop and was attended by approximately 525 people attended the lunch. The day concluded with 4 p.m. Mass which was conducted by Rev. David Medow.
