New Lenox Approves "Revitalization" Plan

During Monday’s meeting the New Lenox Village board approved the final stage of a plan to “revitalize” the northeast corner of Route 30 and Cedar Road. The corner is positioned near the Rock Island District Metra station and the plan will provide new services and options for the heavy traffic area.

The final piece of land was unanimously approved for sale to Heidner Properties and CVS Health according to Mayor Tim Baldermann. The 3 of the four lots were sold for $450,000 apiece to Heidner while the largest lot was sold to CVS for $1.8 million.

The original purchase of the land by the village was more expensive than the sale price to the two parties and overall a net loss for the village. Officials expect the loss to be made up for in sales tax however as most of the lots will be filled with retail establishments and the area is high traffic due to the station.

According to Baldermann, eventually the village hopes to make enough money from the redevelopment to fund a newer and better placed Metra station to further increase foot traffic for village businesses.
