USF Saints Women’s Bowling Brings Home the Win
On Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 4th, the USF Saints bowling team competed in the 11th annual EBONITE Warhawk Open Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin. 63 collegiate bowling teams from the Midwest competed in the Warhawk tournament: 34 men’s teams and 29 women’s teams. The women’s teams competed at Dream Lanes and the men’s teams competed at Schwoegler’s Lanes as the events were separate between the gendered teams.
According to the Warhawk Open Bowling press release, the tournament was comprised of six conventional 5-person team games on Saturday and 16 bakers’ games on Sunday. The top eight teams competed in a bracket tournament which consisted of the best of three bakers’ matches. The USF Saints women’s bowling team qualified first in the bracket and went on to win all three bakers’ matches. This resulted in USF winning the entire Warhawk Open Tournament and becoming the first team in history to not only qualify first but win the tournament as well.
Sara Michalowicz, a senior on the women’s team, stated, "This was our best performance in a tournament yet this season. To be the first team in history to qualify in first place and win three matches to capture the title was a dream, and it was the best way to say goodbye to one of our seniors as she prepares for early graduation!"
The Saints fly out on Sunday December 18th to compete in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational and the Collegiate Shootout. Both tournaments take place in Las Vegas. This will be the USF Saints final tournament of 2016.
