On December 2, the Forest Preserve District of Will County announced the winner of “Preserve the Moment” photo contest in November. The winning photo depicts several young raccoons looking straight to the camera, curled up on a tree branch on a bright clear day at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve in Plainfield. According to the Forest Preserve’s webpage, contest judges chose the photo that won the last month's portion of the contest for “its animated subject matter and playful composition”. The author of the photo is John Sullivan of Crest Hill, who says that he is outdoors a lot and always brings his 35 mm camera. Sullivan stated "I get up at 4 in the morning to be outside at daybreak. I just love sharing the pictures."

There were honorable mentions to other four contestants for the photos submitted for November's portion of the contest. Only one more month is left, and participants can still submit photos to compete in the December contest segment. Winning photos must be taken in a Will County forest preserve by amateur photographers during the contest time period, from June 1 to December 31. Photos placing first, second and third positions will

receive prizes.

In “Preserve the Moment” photo contest, one winner has been chosen each month since June 2016. After the contest ends on December 31, all monthly winners will be posted online and they will compete for top honors, which will be awarded based on online voting via Facebook.
