The Five Foods for Finals

The stress is real. For USF Students, we have two more weeks of this semester left to go which means finals are right around the corner. Before we find holiday happiness in a few weeks for winter break, it is time to focus, buckle down, and finish every assignment for each class. Teen Vogue, a magazine that focuses on fashion and celebrities, listed five foods that help strengthen the brain which will come in handy during finals.

1. Salmon – According to Teen Vogue, salmon contains many vitamins that promote memory such as omega-3 fatty acids and help keep your brain alert and focused throughout the day.

2. Coconut Oil - Coconut oil has many common uses such as a makeup remover and is an alternative to toothpaste but it also can be used to make different kinds of dishes. According to Teen Vogue, coconut oil contains medium-chain fatty acids, which are the perfect source for energy. The digestion of these acids by the liver creates a readily accessible energy supply to the brain.

3. Beets – The vegetable everyone loves to hate actually is helpful because it has nitrates that boost blood flow which help mental performance. Eating beets is also helpful before donating blood. Ava Courtney from Teen Vogue suggests a Quinoa Salad with Roasted Beets and Pear to have as a lunch.

4. Walnuts - Walnuts are high in antioxidants, Omega 3's oils, and their triglyceride levels. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, eating walnuts will improve a person's cognitive function. Walnuts also contain vitamin E, which can help with long-term health benefits like warding off Alzheimer’s disease.

5. Blueberries – Blueberries contain the highest and largest array of antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin K, and fiber. According to Teen Vogue, Blueberries also have high levels of Gallic acid, which is good at protecting the brain from stress and degeneration. Teen Vogue has many delicious recipes with blueberries that can be found clicking here.

Go ahead and start packing some of these delicious treats to snack on while you tattle these tests. Good luck Saints!
