Welcome back University of St. Francis
The University of St. Francis held their annual convocation on Wednesday August, 23 at the nearby Cathedral of St. Raymond. This event is a way to welcome all the new students to the University and a way for them to learn a little bit more about the school they are attending. This year, 2014 graduate Corbin Orr was the guest speaker. Orr mentioned how we need to look at things with different perspectives. While traveling to Italy where he studied the work of God, Orr said that tourist do not understand the power of god and all the things he has created. For example, the cathedral’s in Florence are very well built, have great history in the catholic religion, and visitors do not see that as they pass through and look at the buildings through the lenses of a camera or even a cell phone. Orr noted that we need to serve to the people and help them when in need. But not to forget to invest in ourselves. Following Orr’s speech was a Mass performed by University of St. Francis Priest, Father Terry Deffenbaugh. Father Terry brings great pride in his work and wanted each and every one of us in attendance to understand the power of our Lord and all the sacrifices that he made for each and every one of us. At the conclusion of the mass, facility and staff, greeted each student in attendance to show their appreciation in our choice of choosing to attend the University of St. Francis. When everyone returned to the campus, the University held a picnic as a way for the students, new and old, to meet one another and to kick off the new school year in a entertaining way.
