Joliet's Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory stated that the victim of the incident was a 39-year old woman, employed at Bob Evan's. She arrived for her shift around 5:15 a.m., and was approached by a white Pontiac SUV. Two of the robbers got out and surrounded the victim's car, each pointing a gun at the window. They then proceeded to steal the woman's wallet, which contained her IDs, credit cars, debit cards, and cash. The men then jumped back into their getaway vehicle and the third man who was driving sped off northbound on Larkin Avenue towards Jefferson Street.

Chief Ed Gregory said that a patrol car was near by and was able to track down the vehicle quickly after the woman's 911 call was made. Police pulled over the vehicle and the three men were arrested and taken to jail. They were successfully able to recover the stolen items and they found two BB guns that resembled small handguns.
