An Aurora man is facing several felony charges after running a relative over with a pickup truck late Saturday night.

According to Aurora police, 25-year-old Edgar Alejandro Cruz-Gonzalez got into an argument with a female relative in the basement of a home in the 1000 block of Lebanon Street. Police are not releasing the name of the woman to protect her identity as a crime victim.

Cruz-Gonzalez stormed out of the house and the woman followed, yelling for him to stop. He got into his pickup, backed out of the driveway and started driving north, police said. The 39-year-old woman tried to stop him from leaving by jumping in front of the truck. Cruz-Gonzalez proceeded to run the woman over. She was hit to the ground and then dragged about 10 feet by the truck. Police believe the actions by Cruz-Gonzalez to be intentional.

Cruz-Gonzales stayed at the scene after the incident and he was taken into custody. He has been charged with counts of attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon; as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and DUI.

Cruz-Gonzales was booked Tuesday morning in the Kane County jail at the county's judicial center in St. Charles and his bail is set at $2 million.
