Elgin Walmart employee fired after locking co-worker in freezer
A man employed at an Elgin Walmart was fired after being accused of locking a co-worker in the freezer this past weekend.
The victim was 21-year-old Dymond Moore. Moore works at the Walmart in Elgin and she was about an hour and half into her shift Sunday morning, putting some grocery items in a walk-in freezer, when she says a co-worker locked her in it.
According to the ABC 7 Chicago website, her co-worker intentionally locked her in thee freezer.
"He saw me in the freezer. When I bring my cart in, I always leave the door wide open. We made eye contact and he shut the door. As soon as he shut the door, the lights went out."
Moore said that she is anemic so the cold air sent her into a panic attack. She could not find the freezer’s emergency exit button so she started banging on the door and yelling for help. A few minutes later, another employee heard Moore’s banging and opened the door of the freezer to let her out.
Moore encountered the employee that locked her in shortly after.
"I walked onto sales floor ... he was standing there laughing," Moore said. "I asked him what was funny. He asked me, 'Were you scared?'"
A Walmart spokesperson has confirmed that the man that locked Moore in the freezer was fired.
Still upset from the incident, Moore has been staying with her mother the last couple days. Her mother, Mary Evans, is also upset and thinks more consequences should take place.
"I want this boy to be arrested, to let him know not to lock people in freezer if they think it's a game. It’s not a game.”
