Craft Beer has been one of the most popular things around Joliet in the last few years. With the addition of microbreweries, things have been pretty interesting in the area. Just last week, Elder Brewing Company opened their doors for the first time, joining MyGrain Brewing Company as the second microbrewery in Downtown Joliet. Located on Cass Street, Elder Brewing was started by husband and wife, Andrew and Melissa Polykandriotes in hopes revive the downtown scene in Joliet.

For Polykandriotes, this has been something in the works for some time. “The location we chose is special to me, my family has owned that building for a long time. My dad, Nick, moved his business, JCM Uniforms across the street and this building has been empty since 2015, so I decided to make this happen.” “We will be open Thursday through Sunday as we think those will be the best days for our business.” When asked about how many different beers that are currently on tap, Polykandriotes said, “Right now we have two beers tapped, but we will be adding more, we can have up to ten different beers at once. The beer lineup we have right now is Cream of the Castle and Poly’s Punch, both ale’s.”

Elder Brewing Company can be reached through their website, www.elderbrewingco.com.
