Twin babies found unharmed after car stolen from South Side gas station
A Chevy Impala with twin 5-month-old babies inside was stolen early Sunday morning from a Chatham Neighborhood gas station. According to Chicago police, the car was later found and both babies were unharmed.
The father of the twin babies stopped at a gas station on the 8700-block of South Cottage Grove to buy a bottled water around midnight on Sunday. He left his car running with his baby girl and boy asleep in the backseat while he went into the gas station.
As the victim was about to head back to his car, he saw someone take off with the vehicle. Police said the surveillance video showed the victim chase after the car.
Gas station worker Sam Abdo said the customer ran after the car but he could not catch them. He then came back in the gas station and asked for the phone to call the police.
The suspect presumably saw there were two babies in the car and abandoned it in the 800-block of East 90th Street. Police found it shortly after.
At this time, police are continuing to search for the car thief and are looking for a second person that drove another vehicle.
