Joliet Police arrest the same man twice in one day
Charles Franz, an 18-year-old Plainfield man, was arrested on two different occasions Monday.
Franz was found breaking into a 55-year-old woman’s car around noon at the LA Fitness on Route 59. According to Joliet police Franz was attempting to steal cash and a necklace from the car when the woman caught him. He asked her not to call the police but the woman called anyway. Franz then ran from the LA Fitness parking lot, but was later tracked down by the Joliet Police in the 1800 block of Hampton Court.
Franz was only charged with misdemeanor offenses because the value of the theft was limited. He was released on an I-bond shortly after. Police, however, proceeded to secretly keep Franz under surveillance Monday afternoon because they thought he still might be up to no good.
Later that afternoon Franz broke into a house on the 2500 block of Caton Farm Road. According to the police, detectives saw him kick down the door and begin to steal various items. Franz tried to run again when he realized that police forces were outside the house. He was unsuccessful.
Joliet officers arrested Franz and put him the back of a squad car. He remains in custody at the Will County jail and will have go before a Will County judge on Tuesday afternoon to have a bond hearing.
