Joliet Man dared his brother to shoot and kill him

An argument broke out late Saturday night at 1462 Sterling Avenue in Joliet. The feud was between two brothers, 28-year-old Chris Perez and 36-year-old Ricardo Perez. It ended with Chris Perez shooting his older brother in the head.

According to Will County prosecutors, Chris Perez retreated into one of their bedrooms during the argument. He retrieved a handgun that belonged to another of their brothers who wasn't there. The gun was loaded.

Chris Perez allegedly raised the gun to Ricardo’s head. Ricardo then dared his younger brother to shoot him. According to prosecutors, Chris pulled the trigger, firing one bullet through his brother’s skull and murdering Ricardo Perez.

Chris confessed to killing his brother on Sunday, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Department. On Monday, he appeared for his bond hearing through a video feed at the Will County Adult Detention Center. Chris was represented by the Will County Public Defender’s Office.

Chris Perez is being charged with three counts of first-degree-murder and a conviction would mean a prison sentence from 45 years to life.

His bond is set at $2 million and he would need to pay $200,000 to be released on bail. Perez stated that he does not have the money to be released on bail. He currently remains in custody.
