Forge security removed 30-year-old James E. DeWitt for drunken behavior outside around 9:45 p.m. December 1. It remains unclear what specific actions DeWitt committed to get kicked out of the Forge.
According to the Joliet Patch-News, Dwight was stumbling through the street near the corner of Cass Street and Chicago Avenue, “yelling and spewing profanities.”
Several cars were forced to stop to avoid hitting DeWitt according to a police report. DeWitt remained determined to remain in the street in front of the Forge. One of the cars stopped by DeWitt happened to be a patrolling police vehicle.
The officer pulled over to confront DeWitt, according to the report. “DeWitt then retreated over toward The Forge where he continued yelling and screaming, according to the Joliet Patch. The police report called DeWitt’s behavior “erratic and belligerent.” The police officer removed DeWitt from the premises as a crowed began to form around the scene.
