Orland Park, IL-The town of Orland Park was shocked Monday evening after a shooting occurred at the Orland Square Mall, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old and two people receiving injuries. The area where the shooting occurred was near the Apple Store, and happened at approximately 6:30 p.m., which is when the mall was evacuated according to police sources.

According to WGN, Police said a man with a gun who they describe as black, 6 feet 1 inch, wearing dark clothing and blue jeans, fired shots and the 19-year-old was struck. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition where he later died.

More than 100 police units from all over had begun to establish a command center outside the Cheesecake Factory, which is where a witness had reported hearing gunshots. Police had confirmed a shooting and shoppers had reported to WGN that they heard multiple shots and started running out of the mall.

A source for Orland police told ABC Chicago that a 19-year-old male was shot outside the H&M store and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. According to the Joliet Patch, witness Syreeta Plummer El, a Country Club Hills resident, was in the mall parking lot just before 6:30 p.m. when she planned to make her way over to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. As she was talking on the phone just outside the building, she heard a series of gunshots.

"I knew it was gunshots, so I just started running back to my car and left," Plummer El said. "I don't know what happened there after that, but when I got to the Shell gas station I saw all the police cars and ambulances coming.

The mall is located at 288 Orland Square Dr. in Orland Park, Illinois.
