Joliet Charlotte Russe Is Closing
As malls across America continue to struggle getting shoppers through their doors, the Louis Joliet Mall appears to be closing down another one of its retailers, Charlotte Russe. The women's clothing store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past week.
The Joliet location is among 94 other Charlotte Russe clothing stores that are set to close, the company announced on Tuesday.
According to USA Today, five other Illinois stores will be closing along with the Joliet location including Algonquin, Lincolnwood, Lombard, Peoria and Skokie.
This is one of multiple stores in the Louis Joliet Mall that have since left permanently, including two department retailers. Sears closed its anchor store at the Louis Joliet Mall in January 2019 as the once lucrative retail chain struggles for survival. The Carson's anchor store at the mall closed in August 2018 when its parent company Bon-Ton Stores went out of business.
In 2017, MC Sports closed its doors in the mall as the company shut down entirely. The mall was able to add a Shoe Dept. Encore store to fill this empty space. Similarly, Family Christian Stores, a nonprofit retailer, also went out of business and vacated their storefront.
Although there has been a lot of change to the retail landscape in Joliet, generally speaking, as one retailer closes, another opens in its place.
PacSun, another clothing store targeted towards younger people, will be closing its Louis Joliet Mall location. Women’s accessory and clothing store Dry Goods will be put in its place come spring, according to a Dry Goods distribution list.
Outside of the mall, Bob’s Discount Furniture opened where Sports Authority was previously occupied for 4 years. Also, a former Pizza Hut on Route 30 was demolished in 2017 to make room for a new strip mall.
