Attorney Jumps Off Will County Courthouse
Joliet, IL- An attorney is going to be needing an attorney to defend himself in court after a public stunt results in an arrest. Less than two weeks ago, the Joliet Police Department made a one-of-a-kind arrest when officers captured a man who used a parachute to jump off the building during the middle of the night. Adam R. Wirtz, 35, of North Aurora, was arrested by the Joliet Police on charges of criminal trespass to state supported land, police reports show.
According to the Joliet Patch, the incident happened Friday, Feb. 22. The time of the crime was 1:22 a.m.
While most of Joliet was sound asleep in their beds, "Officers observed a subject parachuting off of the new courthouse that is under construction and landing near the officers," police reports show. Upon arrival to the scene, police were ready to apprehend Wirtz when he landed. He was not deemed to be suicidal or trying to hurt himself.
The Joliet Patch reported that the middle-of-the night parachute artist was identified as Wirtz. He was arrested by Joliet Police and subsequently released on an I-Bond. Wirtz's Facebook page identifies him as being a lawyer in Naperville at the Roscich & Martel Law Firm.
For those who don’t know, sneaking into the construction site is considered trespassing and jumping off of the construction site is also illegal. "There are numerous 'No Trespassing' signs posted along the property," Joliet Police reports show. Wirtz is the first to have done such a stunt and his motivations for doing so are unknown to the public.
It has not been yet released if Wirtz will be facing any further charges however he will be needing an attorney if he chooses not to represent himself when he goes to court for these charges. Wirtz will more than likely be facing these charges in the current Will County courthouse and not the one he jumped off of, as the new courthouse isn’t planned to be opened until 2020 according to the Joliet Patch and city planning officials.
