Joliet Man Throws Drink Over Fast Food Refund
Fast food workers aren’t treated with the respect they deserve for having to deal with some of the unruly customers that come through their doors. A Joliet man was arrested after he demanded a refund from Burger King employees, yelled and threw a cup full of Sprite at one of the workers, Joliet police said.
According to The Herald News, about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, police officers were called to the Burger King at 400 E. Cass St, after receiving a report of a disturbance at the restaurant, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said in an email.
Botzum said the police officers were able to determine that Curtis Williams, 50, resident of the 200 block of East Cass Street, ordered food at Burger King but apparently did not have enough money to pay for the meal. The staff refunded him his money as a result, Botzum said, and Williams was told by staff that refunds can take up to a day to show back up on the card that he used to buy the meal.
The Herald News reported that an “anonymous customer” bought the food for Williams, Botzum said, but a short time later, Williams became upset again and demanded a refund from the staff. The staff refused to give a refund to the fact that he was not the one who paid for the meal. Williams then became irate, yelling and throwing a full cup of Sprite on a Burger King staff member according Botzum. At approximately 8 p.m., officers arrested Williams for his actions and taken to the Will County Detention Center.
Williams was charged with battery and disorderly conduct and was later released on his own recognizance. His next court date is scheduled for April 16, where it will be determined what the consequences are of his actions.
