Joliet Is Pie-Less, Bakers Square Closed
On Monday night, WJOL broke the news that the West Jefferson Bakers Square has closed its doors forever. The last day of business at the restaurant was Sunday.
The restaurant was located next to the Senor Tequila's bar, which is now a rundown empty building that is supposedly going to be torn down to make way for a new Basinger's Pharmacy.
WJOL posted a photo on its website showing a sign on the front door of Bakers Square directing Joliet-area pie lovers all the way to LaGrange Road, the Fox Valley Mall or to Woodridge to enjoy pie at the area Bakers Squares that will remain open.
According to The Herald-News, one of the people at the restaurant handed out a news release from Bakers Square announcing the closing of that store and other locations in Willowbrook, Wilmette and at 3449 N. Harlem Ave. in Chicago.
The news release mentioned that employees at the four closed Bakers Square restaurants were provided “a parting severance package or relocation to another location.” The release did not provide details about the reasons for the closings other than describing it as a “tough but necessary decision.”
News of the closure has upset multiple Joliet residents on social media, some expressing that they did not see this coming at all. Jill Marie commented on a Facebook post about the closing saying “I am very upset and wasn’t expecting this at all. I just put an order in for a pie for Easter Sunday the other day. This leads me to believe that management has not known about this decision for too long, since they continued to take orders as if nothing was wrong.”
