Chick-fil-A May Not Be Coming to Joliet

A site plan for a possible Chick-fil-A location was presented in front of Joliet officials months ago, however, as of Monday, the popular fast-food chain could not confirm the restaurant was in fact coming to the city.
Chick-fil-A spokeswoman Jackie Jags commented on the rumors by saying, “We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service. While we hope to be able to expand in Joliet in the future, we do not currently have a location to confirm.”
According to The Herald News, the site plan Joliet officials saw in February was for the vacant Lone Star Steakhouse located at 2705 Plainfield Road. The steakhouse closed suddenly in July 2017 because the chain was filing for bankruptcy.
After the initial excitement of the new restaurant coming to Joliet wore off, local residents were quick to clarify that the plans were not set in stone despite some news outlets suggesting they were definite.
Jeff Smith commented on a social media post saying, “Joliet Patch writer John Ferak, aka tabloid writer, jumps the gun once again. According to a journalist at The Herald News, none of the plans are absolute. Remember that at this point in time, Chick-fil-A coming to Joliet is still a rumor, no matter what some headlines might suggest.”
Joliet’s Economic Development Director Steve Jones said, “We were just trying to figure out whether anyone has heard anything more recent,” in regards to Chick-fil-A building a restaurant on the property. He also said that the project would not necessarily need to come in front of the city council because the site is already correctly zoned.
