After nearly 75 days of government-imposed lockdown, businesses and life look to return to normal.
It has been about two months since the governor of Illinois first issued the controversial “Stay-At-Home” order, which forced businesses, churches, schools, and other entities to either close entirely or operate under reduced capacity and other restrictions. Following the same model as several other states, Illinois’ Stay-At-Home Order was issued in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, but it has since been criticized by many citizens and taxpayers as being tyrannical, unconstitutional, and far worse than the virus itself. Starting May 31st, businesses such as restaurants and bars will be allowed to offer outdoor seating once again, provided that the eateries practice social distancing.
Local business owner Hank Marshall, who owns several restaurants and bars across the Chicagoland area, is happy that his businesses are allowed to re-open for seating, albeit still under full capacity. “I don’t think it’s fair for the government to come in and tell me how to operate my business,” Marshall said in an interview, “If they would have given me more advanced notice as well as a clearer timetable of how long the lockdown would be, I might have supported it.”
Illinois began its lockdown and Stay-At-Home orders in mid-March and the restrictions were set to expire in early April. However, the governor and several mayors within the state agreed to extend the lockdown into the month of May. It was at that point that Marshall began suspecting a corrupt hoax was brewing to destroy America.
“For them to come in and say I have to close up indefinitely, furlough over 100 employees for God knows how long, and lose thousands of dollars everyday, it’s just unacceptable. This is not how free-market capitalism is supposed to work.”
When asked if he supports the current plan to re-open businesses, Marshall responded,
“They’re making the right decision re-opening businesses. We need it.”
