Coronavirus Shutdown can’t shut down steak-joint’s success
Many businesses have suffered greatly because of the Coronavirus outbreak and the resulting orders and mandates that followed. Some businesses, even ones that have been around for generations, were not able to deal with the loss of revenue and increased costs associated with the pandemic and were forced to go out of business. Residents feared that the same would happen to Krapil’s, a steakhouse located in the south suburbs of Chicago, in Worth, Illinois.
When the Coronavirus pandemic forced many restaurants to switch to “Carry-Out Only,” owner Ron Muersch decided to entirely shut down operations, temporarily.
“We had a large following, so we knew we could do carry-out if we had to,” Mr. Muersch explained, “But with our high prices and commitment to quality food, we felt that ‘Carry-Out steak entrees’ would be a financial risk to ourselves and our loyal customers.”
For the last several decades, Krapil’s Steakhouse has made a name for themselves as one of the premier steak restaurants on the South Side and they are now known for the expansive patio section, live entertainment, and friendly service. Founded in the 1960s, the Krapil’s family sold the restaurant to the Muersch family in July 1996. Over the next several years, the Muersch team renovated the entire restaurant and expanded their reach from local steak joint to nationally recognized restaurant. The restaurant has been featured on “Windy City Live” and was named among the best restaurants in the Chicagoland area by WGN-TV.
“As soon as the governor let restaurants resume outdoor patio seating, we were back in business stronger than ever,” Muersch stated, “On the first day, within 30 minutes of announcing our re-opening, we had a 4-hour long wait for reservations and every seat was filled throughout the night. We have had terrific support!”
