Notorious bar has love-hate relationship within the community, and that’s exactly the way they want it.
For the last several years, Dan D Jac’s has slowly become the most controversial local bar in the area.
“I started working here about five years ago and you get to meet a lot of interesting people,” manager Gabrielle Grant stated, “The owners are extremely nice and they take care of you, so I love working here, but I can understand why some people might have a negative opinion about us.”
Located near Tinley Park, Dan D Jac’s is like any other local bar that serves food and drinks. They also have all the amenities other bars have like flat screen TVs, modern jukeboxes and video slots. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, they are not allowing patrons inside the restaurant, but are utilizing a beer tent to keep the customers happy. With no one allowed in the bar area, the management at Dan D Jac’s decided it would be a great time to renovate and clean up the interior.
“Management is planning on repairing leaks, we need to repaint the walls, wax the floor; the little things,” Grant explained.
Dan D Jac’s is noted among the community as being a “dive-bar” where the beer is warm and the music is bad, but for regulars like “Disco Mike,” it’s like a second home.
“I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember, since they opened, and I’ve always been treated like family,” laughs Disco Mike, “Karaoke on the weekends is really something, I always look forward to it!”
In addition to hosting open mic nights on Wednesdays, Dan D Jac’s also hosts Karaoke nights on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, with Saturday being the most popular by far. Allowing the local community to be the star of the stage for a few minutes makes Dan D Jac’s a local favorite.
“I did karaoke my first time here as a joke and sang ‘Don’t want to miss a Thing’ by Aerosmith,” says Noah Senffner, “I found out I really enjoy singing and I’m not half-bad, so I come here every weekend and try to master a new song. I have Dan D. Jac’s to thank for that.”
Critics of Dan D Jac’s say that the food and alcohol is terrible, the building itself is dirty and unclean, and the overall atmosphere is sketchy, at best, among other negative remarks, according to reviews on their Yelp page.
“Either you love it or you hate it,” manager Gabby Grant says, “we’re not twisting your arm to come inside. Hopefully with the renovations in place, people will see that we’re just like any other bar.”
