Illinois to change license plate design
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced on Tuesday that the state would be switching the license plate design in order to replace the older design that is currently in rotation. The program is needed because as White says "the program is needed because plate reflectivity diminishes with age, making it difficult for law enforcement to read plate numbers." This solution helps prevent a complete overhaul of license plates in the state, a move that would of cost around $60 million, but with this program the entire cost will be covered by the agencies current budget. The program will start by beginning to switch out plates that were issued in 2000 and 2001 in 2017 and in 2018 plates that were issued from 2002 to 2003 will be recalled. Motorists affected by this program will receive new plates in the mail and any motorist who wishes to order new plates for whatever reason can get these replacement plates for $29 starting in January,.
